Job Description

Senior Applications Engineer

Location: EMEA, Qatar, Doha  |  Job Reference: JOHNCRANEEMEA01416
Job Type: Full Time   |  Job Function: Engineering

The Senior Applications Engineer works within the Regional Engineering team, reporting to the Engineering Manager MEA. Guiding less experienced Engineers where appropriate, they take responsibility for the day-to-day technical support to the region. This includes product selection and specification, troubleshooting, failure diagnosis and will involve working directly with internal and external suppliers and customers, as well as managing workflow within the department and reporting on department performance metrics.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leadership / supervision of engineering team, including:
  • engendering team spirit, culture of continuous improvement etc.
  • management of team workflow / deployment / delegation, including reporting of departmental workload, forecasting of job lead-times etc. to meet customer and departmental objectives
  • Review / processing / delegation of application requests
  • Following standard techniques and procedures, selection / application of standard or special products to meet customers’ needs, including seals, fluid control products, couplings and filters
  • Creating new or updating existing standards to control the application of products, and engineering procedures
  • Generation of engineering proposals / specifications for standard or special products, including determining cost-effective materials for production
  • Seal calculations (including leakage calculations, heat generation, balance temp, flow rates etc.); fluid control calculations as required; couplings calculations as required; other engineering calculations as required
  • Produce complete and informative Drawing Office requests and provide applications guidance to CAD Engineers to complete layout (GA) and detail drawings
  • Field troubleshooting, including analysis of problems / recommendation & implementation of appropriate solutions, meeting with customers in plant or at customer’s site to resolve satisfactorily
  • Detailed failure analysis activities, including full investigation / reporting / resolution with customer with necessary commercial awareness
  • Approve / reject purchase or manufacture of fabricated parts not to drawing specification
  • High level technical presentations to customers at management level in order to support sales
  • Delivering detailed technical training externally to customers as required
  • Manage and report personal workload, forecast job lead-times to meet customer and departmental objectives
  • Raise / process / approve Engineering Change Notice (ECN) requests
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to Regional Sales and Service and the Projects team
  • Visit customer sites for technical measurement, seal installation and commissioning
  • Work closely with sales team and report any retrofit or upgrade opportunity
  • Work in line with John Crane standards, procedures and policies

The Individual
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
  • Professional experience in engineering and sales
  • Experience working in refinery rotating equipment/maintenance
  • Engineering knowledge in a proactive multinational and multicultural environment
  • Ability to carry out failure analysis
  • Fair knowledge and use of measuring instrument
  • Persistent and efficient, self-starter with good sense of initiative
  • Knowledge of CAD
  • A strong technical knowledge of John Crane product portfolio
  • Languages: English. Speaking in Arabic is an advantage

DGS SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Job Function : After Sales Service Repair

At John Crane we are looking for a DGS Service Technician responsible for the refurbishment and testing processes of dry gas seals in the service center.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Technician will perform activities related to the repair and manufacture of New and refurbished DGS and Mechanical seals. Those activities include:

  • Strip, inspect and assemble dry gas seals/Mechanical seals.
  • Complete the grooving activities for repair
  • Dismantling and cleaning of seals and parts under repair.
  • Define and write strip and inspection reports
  • Assemble and repair mechanical seals and seal cartridges in accordance with John Crane drawings and specifications.
  • Perform Dynamic balancing of seal rotor and perform refurbishment activities of seals
  • Complete the set up and test of different types/sizes of dry gas seals
  • Maintain and update the test cell inventory, fixtures, and parts.
  • Manual machining of components where required.
  • Lapping, polishing and cleaning when necessary, following the set standard processes.
  • Generate and keep track record of all incoming and outgoing seals.
  • Prepare seals with appropriate packaging / test log sheet / shipping documents
  • Maintain safe work record and friendly relationship with colleagues
  • Comply Smiths policy.
  • Any other related tasks assigned from time to time

Education/Training: 

  • Diploma or University degree in Engineering or relevant vocational technical qualification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in proactive multinational & multicultural
  • Turbomachinery/mechanical seal industry background with minimum 3-5 years of      experience on field or other rotating equipment like centrifugal pump
  • Knowledge of John Crane product portfolio.
  • CNC lathe machine operation, CMM, Welding, lapping and polishing knowledge
  • Knowledge of oil & gas process industry
  • Basic knowledge of MS office, Report writing and presentation skills

At Smiths Detection Doha, Qatar, we are looking for a capable Senior Field Service Engineer.

Within a team of other senior and more junior field engineers the incumbent will successfully manage the  costumers to fullfill the uptime requirements for our products.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out installation, commissioning, operator instructions, maintenance and repair on products and trading goods sold by Smiths Detection
  • Complete factory configuration of complex spare parts, including IT components.
  • Repair of equipment and systems including the required documentation.
  • Integration in complex environments
  • Participation in Stand-by and Shift-work Services
  • Supporting Level 1 & 2 service staff
  • Feasibility of task in accordance with laws and provisions
  • Usage of spare parts based on the technical fault analysis in accordance to the contract and/or in accordance with the customer
  • Act as escalation level for the Level 1 & 2 service staff
  • Perform shift and resource planning of Level 1 & 2 service staff
  • Continuous supervision of the local service organization as well as available resources
  • Ensure full process adherence of the allocated technical staff and proper reporting according to the contract.
  • Drive continuous process improvements in order to achieve operational excellence and maximum efficiency.
  • Management of spare part inventory and material movement
  • Monitoring of installed system base
  • Capable to integrate products in complex environments and commission the corresponding interfaces
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems
  • Replacing faulty network hardware components when required
  • Monitoring network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made
  • Configuring and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources
  • Strong focus on customer requirements and problem solving
